Examinations
A note from your Examinations Officer....
Year 11 — you did it!
You’ve made it through a very busy Gold Mock timetable, and I am so proud of everything you’ve achieved. You handled the pressure brilliantly, carried yourselves so well, and followed all the exam guidance exactly as you should. You showed real maturity, resilience, and focus throughout.
These mocks were tough, and you rose to the challenge. Every paper you sat, every early morning, every moment you pushed yourself — it all counts, and it all shows.
Next stop: the real thing. You’ve got this now. You know how exams work, you know the routines, and you’ve already proved to yourselves that you can do it.
Keep going, keep believing in yourselves, and remember — every step you take now is building your future. You’re stronger than you think, and you’re absolutely capable of smashing the real exams.

Exam Guidance
At The Academy Selsey, we follow a structured assessment journey to support students as they progress through school. Our internal assessments are designed to build exam confidence and help us understand how students are developing in their subjects.
Bronze, Silver & Gold Exams (formerly “Mocks”)
These internal exams take place from the end of Year 10 into and throughout Year 11. They give students the chance to practise working under exam conditions and help staff tailor support ahead of final assessments.
Start Times:
- Morning exams: 9:00am (students must be ready by 8:45am)
- Afternoon exams: 11:45am (students must be ready by 11:35am)
Key Information:
- These exams are scheduled by the school and communicated well in advance.
- Exams usually take place in the Sports Hall, with alternative rooms provided for students with access arrangements.
- Students must attend in full school uniform and follow JCQ-style exam rules.
- Phones, smartwatches, and bags are not permitted in exam rooms.
Platinum Exams (GCSEs)
Platinum Exams are your final, official GCSE assessments, taken at the end of Year 11. These exams are scheduled nationally by the exam boards and cannot be changed, so it's essential to be well prepared, punctual, and organised.
Start Times:
- Morning exams: 9:00am (students must be ready by 8:45am)
- Afternoon exams: 1:00pm (students must be ready by 12:45pm)
Key Information:
- All GCSE exams take place in the Sports Hall, with alternative rooms provided for students with access arrangements.
- You must wear full school uniform for every exam.
- Phones, smartwatches, and electronic devices are not permitted in the exam room. These must be switched off and stored outside before entering.
- You will be searched before entering the exam venue, in line with JCQ regulations.
- Bags are not allowed inside the exam room — valuables will be collected and stored securely.
- Only clear plastic bottles and pencil cases are permitted. All labels must be removed.
- Check your exam timetable carefully — any errors must be reported immediately. Changes later on may result in a fee and could delay your certificate.
Staying Calm & Confident: Managing Exam Stress
It’s normal to feel nervous about any exams — they’re a big milestone. But with the right strategies, you can stay in control and perform at your best:
- Start revising early – little and often is better than cramming.
- Use your revision plan – structure your time using Mrs Keen’s guidance ('Students - A Guide to Year 11 #BeKeen')
- Take regular breaks – short breaks help your brain reset and focus.
- Eat and sleep well – your brain needs fuel and rest to function properly.
- Talk to someone – if you’re feeling overwhelmed, speak to a teacher, your tutor, or someone at home. You’re not alone.
- Practice calming techniques – deep breathing, positive affirmations, or short walks can all help reduce anxiety.
- Believe in yourself – you’ve got this far for a reason. Trust your preparation.
Remember: These exams are your opportunity to show everything you’ve learned. Stay focused, take care of yourself, and give it your best effort — one exam at a time.
